Designed for diving, this watch is water-tested to 200 meters. The watch secures to a comfortable, extra-long, pressure-vented urethane strap that fastens with a buckle closure. It’s built for a purpose, and that purpose is keeping time underwater. Which means being readable underwater, hence the thick hands and markers. Weight is concentrated in the case, as the rubber strap is very light. The strap is long and very well made. Rubber strap extremely comfortable in all weathers. The hardlex crystal is flat and sits about 1mm below the bezel. The dial lettering is neatly executed in the Seiko tradition, with the minute markers being spot-on accurate. This is an automatic mechanical watch. If the watch is worn on the wrist, the mainspring will be wound automatically through normal wrist movement. Swing it from side to side in a horizontal arc for about 30 seconds to initially start your watch. It has a unidirectional rotating bezel on dial having blue and red combination of colors. Rotating bezel is to measure the time during diving up to 60 minutes. This watch follows automatic movement of 7S26. It has a big, unidirectional bezel, Seiko’s trademark Hardlex crystal and a solid rubber strap. The uni-directional turning bezel is a smooth action affair, with positive 120 clicks. The bezel is quite thick with vertically knurled edges for easy grip. In the lume department, the SKX009J dial and hands luminosity is slightly above average and the lume lasts well into the night. The SKX009J is a large watch. Its case is 42 millimeters across and approximately 13 millimeters thick. It has a very pronounced bezel is protected by an equally pronounced bezel-guard that extends upwards from the lugs. The bezel guard extends into the crown guard to the location of the crown at the 4 o’clock position. This crown position is more comfortable for such a large watch and is a bit of a trademark with Seiko Diver’s through the decades. The dial is dark blue with bigger hour markers in highly luminous and glows in dark. Additional features include a screw-down case and crown, stainless steel case and a blue dial with three-hand function, easy-to-read markers, and a day/date window at the three o’clock position.
