Marcus Grönholm, a former rally car driver loved machines and tough multi-featured gadgets. Not finding a suitably designed watch for himself, he designed his own and approached Orient (now that’s another story in itself), to custom make the watch for him.

Orient was so amazed at the freshness of the design that they decided to manufacture a new line of watches to be called the Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve.

Marcus Grönholm loved to see the precise movement of the watch. Looking at the many existing watches that had transparent dial faces and displayed the watch movements, he soon realized that it sometimes resulted in difficulties reading the time. Known for sketching designs of products he wanted, Marcus Grönholm worked on a sketch of how he would like his watch to look and thus was born the Marcus Grönholm – Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve – a watch that perfectly complemented the power cockpit of a high-performance race car.

It wasn’t just Marcus Grönholm who instantly loved the new Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve watch. The watch was snapped up by thousands who loved the new look intermittent glimpses of precise mechanical movement of the watch. They especially loved sporty look combined with the intricate design.

The new Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve watch had seven strategically placed windows through which you could see the beautiful mechanical movement of the watch. Each of these Orient Automatic Watch also comes equipped with a mechanical calculator located on the bezel of the watch – turn it one way or the other and you can perform mathematical functions as subtraction, multiplication, addition, division, currency conversion and distance conversion.

To alter the time on the Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve watch, you use the crown located at the 9 o’clock position. Additionally, the crown, embossed with the Orient logo is a screw down type and prevents water from entering the case which of course, is water resistant up to depths of 100 meters.

The Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve watch is a pure mechanical watch – but with an interesting twist. The watch converts kinetic energy from movement of your arm to tighten a spring and once the spring is tightened, the watch will function accurately for up to 40 hours. There is no internal battery to charge.
