The Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve is also often called the Marcus Grönholm – Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve and here’s the story behind it:
Marcus Grönholm, a former rally car driver loved machines and tough multi-featured gadgets. Not finding a suitably designed watch for himself, he designed his own and approached Orient (now that’s another story in itself), to custom make the watch for him.
Orient was so amazed at the freshness of the design that they decided to manufacture a new line of watches to be called the Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve.
Marcus Grönholm loved to see the precise movement of the watch. Looking at the many existing watches that had transparent dial faces and displayed the watch movements, he soon realized that it sometimes resulted in difficulties reading the time. Known for sketching designs of products he wanted, Marcus Grönholm worked on a sketch of how he would like his watch to look and thus was born the Marcus Grönholm – Orient Automatic Semi Skeleton Power Reserve – a watch that perfectly complemented the power cockpit of a high-performance race car.
