I’ve been wearing my Casio AQ-S800WD-7EVDF (AD171) watch for close to 10 years now. Except for the accumulated scratches on the crown, there’s nothing wrong with it. It keeps perfect time and I can’t even recollect when I last had to reset the time. It is very functional and provides me with the time of the day, the date of the month and the day of the week.
But for all that, the watch lacks beauty. Back in the day when I bought it, I was a bit younger (naturally), and functionality mattered. Today at nearing retirement, functionality with beauty would be nice. This then is the kind of watch I am looking for i.e., the same features as my current watch but with beauty added to it.
I wasn’t actively seeking such a watch mind, but anytime I visited a mall I would casually browse through the watch store. Or, if I was waiting in a lounge somewhere, I would browse through the magazines.
Overtime, I found many watch brands and models that have beauty with functionality but when I looked at the price tags, it would take my breath away. The Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ129 7039-1 70391 quartz moon phase men’s watch is a masterpiece to be sure and with a sale price tag of under Rs 16,000 (retail price over Rs 40,000), it was perfect. I snapped it up and glad I did too because a few days later after I received the watch and showed it to a friend, he complained to me that the sale had ended and that the price had gone up.
The dial of the Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ129 7039-1 70391 quartz moon phase men’s watch is almost 4 cm across which means, I don’t have to squint to see the time. The case is thin and has a gold tone color with a golden colored genuine leather strap.
There are 3 sets of markers on the dial including the hour markers – which are in large Arabic numerals and the seconds. The outer most marker has the week of the year – only the Germans can be so perfect. But then, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the country that produces the Mercedes, the Maybach, the BMW, Porsche, Audi and the Volkswagen – all super fine quality cars.
There are 4 hands on the watch – the hour hand, the minute hand, the seconds hand and a separate hand that indicates the week of the year. So, as the 4th hand approaches the 52nd week, you know it’s Christmas time.
The dial of the Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ129 7039-1 70391 quartz moon phase men’s watch comes in pure white and pearl white. I chose the pure white as I felt the pearl white was a bit to jazzy for my taste. The watch mechanism is a quartz and so requires a tinny battery. I’m cool with that – at least I don’t have to wind it every day. The dial face has three sub-dials. One for the date of the month, the moon phase and the third is for the day of the week.
Well, the Zeppelin Hindenburg LZ129 7039-1 70391 quartz moon phase men’s watch has beauty and brains. With the price (during a sale) being pocket-friendly, what more can a man want? Just go for it.
