Those accustomed to my rants know my weakness towards backgrounds. “Where the ancestry lies?” – is one of my prime lookouts in anything I cover; everything I cover. That, perhaps, chuck out a lot of pleasure a lot of people might die for, but I can’t help being a cynic. If that leaves the rest of the roses in a garden in the shades to rot, fine; but I shall put nothing apart from the best in my buttonhole. So you got my view towards one of my prized passions, the watches. And your deductive logic says – “Quartz is out of the league.

Not always. There are exceptions and I’m not pointing towards the high-priced GS and the rest. There are exceptions also in the inexpensive category and I have no hesitation in putting Invicta there. Especially, the Speedway!

Now, a lot of people might snarl at me for glorifying a Rolex Daytona copy, but I’d rather call it an influence. Is that replacing single malt with brewski? In my not so humble opinion, things are not that straight. Why, I think I should avoid that at this point of time; I’m really not in a mood to philosophize. Instead, let’s draw a straight comparison with the Daytona.

The first think I’d like to mention is don’t jump at a conclusion saying the Daytona is a Swiss automatic and the Speedway, Japanese quartz. We all know that and we agreed to move ahead accepting that truth. We are talking functions here and the Daytona alike, it hacks; pull out the crown and there you go! So you can set the exact time, the first point that makes for a useful watch. Where the Speedway differs from the Daytona is it has the chronograph seconds displayed in a sub-dial, not along the same axis with the hour and the minute hand. Now, that’s not conventional for a chronograph watch.

The Speedway’s seconds-hand doesn’t bounce backwards, which is uncommon for a watch this inexpensive. It keeps visual disturbance away; neither does it overshoot nor undershoot i.e. it ticks precisely on the seconds marks.

Coming to the chronograph, it’s really not up to the mark of the Daytona but well, with the price difference, it is ought to be like that. It’s considerably different from the Daytona regarding its operation. The Speedway uses the central seconds-hand to measure the usual seconds while the elapsed seconds, for the chrono, are measured on the subdial. The Daytona uses the same sub-dial to measure elapsed minutes. The Speedway measures its elapsed minutes on the sub-dial beside the 9 but just for an hour and not like Daytona that measures twelve hours. The Speedway lacks the capability to measure the hours.

However, the Speedway also denotes AM/PM, which Daytona doesn’t.
