BaselWorld – the ultimate watch and jewellery show on the planet – is current running at Basel in Switzerland (from 26th March to 2nd April). The watch show will take place at over six exhibition halls with a total surface area of 160,000 square meters.

It is at BaselWorld that all the major watch manufacturers come together once a year to showcase their latest creations and technological advances in the science of watch-making. So far, the highlights of this years show have been the Concord C1 Quantum Gravity watch (which is limited to only 10 pieces – and will definitely cost a forture), the Tag Heuer Monaco 24 concept watch (which means its just a concept, not necessarily will it make to production). Seiko has unveiled the Seiko Ananta series of high-end Spring Drive watches. Another interesting event to look out for will be the unveiling of the Ulysse Nardin Chairman Phone, which is a luxury cell phone made by a watch manufacturer. So that means it will (or should since details are still sketchy) combine the best of watch-making precision and beauty with the functionality of cell phones. It is supposedly kinetic powered..

Overall consensus is that Tag Heuer stole the show at this year’s BaselWorld with its Monaco watches, but as they say ‘it ain’t over till its over’ since there are still a couple of days left for the show…
