This is how an everyday watch in calf leather and stainless steel should be! When I’m out in a hurry and got less time to care for the thing on my wrist, I’ll always look for an inexpensive but not ill-looking option, which is the Fossil Grant chronograph.

Some of you might ask if I really need that little extra stopwatch function in a daily beater. The answer is both “yes” and “no”. “No”, because life is not always a race track and “yes” because I really don’t know when I’ll need to measure time. Besides, it adds a certain amount of fullness to an otherwise plain watch face, which I like. A classic looking watch goes anywhere and everywhere; this is perhaps the biggest reason I’d like to strap on the Grant chrono on a regular basis. It doesn’t show that it’s inexpensive.  Its rich brown leather, its punctuated Roman numerals and overall, a classic shape goes well with everyday formals; even with the attire you don for the best-dressed season.

Now, the quartz movement is unbeatable when it comes to precise timekeeping, which is essential when you want to catch the train or the bus. The high quality stainless steel ensures there’s not much to be done at the maintenance department and banging it against the doors is not going to inflict any grave mark in your mind, which is a common phenomenon with a classy, expensive mechanical watch.  A decent amount of water resistance capacity (50 meters/ 165 feet) is enough to keep clean of a sudden splash or shower and its neat, subtle appearance pairs up perfectly with any semi-formal or official event.

Focusing on its usability, its mineral crystal dial window needs a mention first. It’s a multi-layered crystal, heat-treated collectively and individually to an unusual degree of hardness. That’s absolute freedom from scratches; an optimum transparency and a high resistance against sudden impacts. In short, it will take time to show signs of wear and tear.

The gold tone and the brown calf leather are perfect matches to its refined dial layout. The gold tone has a satin finish to it that matches perfectly the grainy texture of the leather. It’s soft and supple, yet strong enough (great tensile strength) and durable; therefore, fit for prolonged usage without sweat and other bodily secretions biting into it. That makes it virtually maintenance free.

So to sum up, the Fossil Grant chronograph scores high due to its:

  • Simple, standard analog chronograph display.
  • Rugged stainless steel with an elegant finish.
  • Strong, soft and supple calf leather band.
  • A decent, 50m water resistance.
  • A classic, vintage-inspired style.

Conclusion: Altogether, the Fossil Grant chronograph serves more than its sole purpose, adding distinctive style to everyday formal outfits with its personality.
