The Luminox Point Man is a part of the Recon collection, which represents the land timepiece line-up. An array of special features to enhance tactical reconnaissance efficiency and experiences, it is a cool watch with an actually useful tachymeter. Useful, because unlike other sport chronographs, its tachymeter scale measures speed under 60mph or kmph; in real life, which is very useful. The walking speed tachymeter allows you to set your own speed when you are out on jogging or in a walking race or trying to improve the time of your sprints. If you can determine how long you take to get to a specific point, you can improve upon it gradually.

This you do by counting the shift of the seconds-hand from zero (12’0 clock) till you cover on foot a distance of 50m or 164 feet. Count in miles or kilometres, it’s all the same. Do not expect, though, a very precise digital-type result, but when you got no other instrument to rely upon, this one comes up as the saviour. Among other features, there are the rotating bezel (with a 60-minutes counter); a navigational ring and a 24-hour scale.

Coming to the case size, it is 45mm wide with carbon reinforced polycarbonate as the case material. It is very strong plastic, much tougher than the usual resin. It’s strong, light and with a steel case-back. Just calling it plastic would be very much an injustice.

The dial features something interesting. From 9 to 12 o’clock, the markers got a bit different orientation, noticeable right at the first glance due to the bright orange colour. This works as a countdown timer apart from looking cool. The lume is the Swiss MB Microtec H3 tritium, which is self-glowing gas in glass capsules, offering excellent illumination under varying degrees of dim light conditions. But to watch it glow with its full potential, you need it to be pitch-dark all around.

The Point Man runs on a Swiss Ronda quartz movement and is water resistant to 200 meters. But the real pleasure is a sapphire crystal instead of a mineral glass, which is uncommon at this price point. There’s a reason behind; it keeps the visibility intact being highly scratch resistant. Further, it has an anti-reflective coating, so that you can see things without reflected light barring your view.

The Recon Point Man comes with a nice NATO-style strap, which, to tell the truth, is bit more thick than the usual commercial variety. That makes it more comfortable for prolonged wearing and also more durable to stay intact for over the years. Got to be, for something that’s meant to last over decades, must rely on every component to stay that way.
